The Chopper Topper portable dental office travels to elementary schools around the Denver-Metro area to provide dental screenings and preventive molar sealants on site. As the first and only program of its kind in Denver, Chopper Topper focuses on children who have limited access to dental care because of economic and cultural barriers.
Currently, the program works with those Denver metro-area schools that have a student population of 70 percent or more who qualify for treatment, which are those who are eligible to receive the free or reduced-price lunch program, as based on federal income guidelines.
Chopper Topper activities include:
- Dental health screenings
- Pit and fissure sealants to help prevent tooth decay
- Oral health information for parents
- Appropriate referrals for children who need restorative or emergency dental care
Giving children access to quality dental care is critical in the prevention of many dental-related diseases. With Chopper Topper's portable dental office, those barriers that may limit a child’s ability to receive proper dental care are overcome.
