KIDS in Need of Dentistry partners with the Colorado Orthodontic Foundation

KIDS in Need of Dentistry and the Colorado Orthodontic Foundation, a newly formed 501 (C) (3), have joined together to provide dental care and orthodontic care to children in need throughout Colorado. Kids in Need of Dentistry (KIND) and Dr. Joseph Dankey began an orthodontic program 17 years ago at the KIND clinic in Commerce City. Over the years, KIND has been very fortunate to have other orthodontists volunteer to provide treatment for KIND patients. With the new collaboration, more children will get the opportunity to receive orthodontic care in the KIND clinics, as well as Colorado Orthodontic Foundation (COF) orthodontic clinics.

COF was formed by a group of orthodontists and business leaders living in Colorado. Their mission is to provide affordable orthodontic treatment and education to as many financially challenged children and families as possible.

Both organizations are very excited about this collaboration, in hopes that they will be able to provide dental care and orthodontic care to more children in order to promote better oral health, beautiful smiles and the confidence to become the next leaders in our communities.

Annual Board Retreat

On Saturday, April 25, Kids In Need of Dentistry's Board of Trustees met for their annual board retreat at the COPIC offices.

The morning began with a short board meeting followed by three very informative presentations.

Carol Reagan and Suzy Shimasaki from The Partnership for Families and Children lead an interactive discussion on "Why Cultural Competency is Important" They presented the framework for Cultural Competency and challenged the board to implement these ideas in the KIND organization.

Brian Hardin was next on the agenda. Brian is from Employers Edge who has very generously donated his time to work with KIND on teambuilding. This will to be an ongoing process that KIND staff and board will be involved in. The sessions will include (1) Building Trust (2) Communication and Conflict (3) Accountability and (4) Execution.

Our final presentation was by Alberto Peralto, Senior Vice President of Solera Bank. Alberto has recently joined the KIND board. He had the board go through and evaluate how they felt they were doing as a board. He then discussed "The Elements of an Affective Non-Profit Board"

It was a jammed packed morning, but the board left with energy, a renewed vision for KIND and what it takes to be a board member. KIND is very lucky to have a board that is receptive, enthusiastic, hard working and wanting to make a difference.

A special THANK YOU from the Chopper Topper Program

Thanks to the support and dedication of Margie at Annunciation Elementary, Maria at Valdez Elementary, and Mary at Bryant-Webster Elementary, 100% of the second graders participated in the Chopper Topper Program. The total number of second graders at these three schools were 118 and 237sealants were placed.

These nurses went above and beyond to ensure the success of the Chopper Topper Program. Annunciation, Valdez and Bryant-Webster are fortunate to have them.

Our goal for the coming year is to have more than three schools with 100% participation. These amazing nurses have proven that it can be done.

We look forward to working with everyone again next year.
